about

Sometimes I feel like I live in an adventure story. After deciding to call my musical self Baby Money I started imagining that she, Baby Money, a person outside of myself and different from myself but also myself, was somehow trapped inside of some bizarre edition of, "Little Red Riding Hood." Short dress, short cape, short hair, long socks, small basket, dark forest...and then the forest opened up to reveal The City. The way the city looks in movies about the future made in the 1930s.

And this city was built with one central point: the Bank (go with me here...somehow the money part of Baby Money makes me think of banks...a lot) and the Bank was church and chapel and hospital and healer. The Bank acts as judge and jury, city hall, wedding hall, polka hall. The Bank became the central nerve for imaginary me in an imaginary adventure and then...I don't know exactly what happened but I started humming.

This was one of those songs that snuck up on me. After a long week of long days, I was working late, and couldn't stand the scratchy radio anymore. I turned off the volume and had that, "it's so quiet" moment.

Too much information? Yes. But curious to me as I recall it? Yes. So maybe it will be curious to you too...here's hoping!

lyrics

somebody told me
i could be happy
if i just had me a little more little red money
a little money
to keep me warm i
n a little red house a little safe from the storm

somebody warned me the night was coming
when not no nothing to get me to dream
a little honey
and a little red money
might buy me comfort might buy a couple things

i told my mama
i told her, "mama...
i don't want nothin but to travel and sing..."
to which she told me,
"find anybody, go find somebody and get you a little red ring."

a whistlin' woman
a whistlin' woman
and a crowin' hen ain't never come to no go ending
a winter woman whispered to me,
"ain't no good found on earth without a little red money"
ain't no good without a little money

about

Baby Money Chicago, Illinois

Baby Money (aka Pamela Maurer) was born in the Rust Belt before it rusted over, behind the mirror and in the belly of a great beast – a wild west futuristic Wednesday Addams, a Firestarter. She speaks languages, plays instruments, carries cash, and is very excited for this moment. And also this one. Baby Money loves your face. ... more
